Air travel has become crucial to the present civilization. From moving humans to non-humans, air travel is a bedrock of globalization. Aviation, the design, development, production, operation, and use of aircraft, has offered us different opportunities due to its usage whether it is for military or civil purposes. For many reasons, air travel still stands as one of the most preferred means of transportation despite its cost. The business of moving people came with its challenges. For instance, the need to keep passengers comfortable during flight and also attract passengers necessitated the development of inflight entertainment. The strategy worked with the progressive acceptance of more inventions to make the flying experience pleasurable. With the services provided came cultural affiliations that engender the way of life of the passengers, aircraft operators, airline country of origin, investors, and business owners. The drive to provide services that reflect the cultural diversity of passengers continues to serve as an impetus for incorporating more entertainment and media that reflect different cultural expressions and experiences. Inadvertently, aviation has become a globalization tool through the synthetization of cultures while conveying mass human and non-human across spaces.

Despite the significant impact and influence of this sector in the world systems, limited literature exists that captures the intersection between aviation, entertainment, and culture that continues to grow with the advancement in technological inventions. Thus, this volume aims to explore the dynamic relationship between aviation, entertainment, and culture. This book seeks to provide the opportunity to reflect on the past, and the present and lean into the pull of the future. The volume will contribute both theoretical and practical insights into the relationship that exists among the triad. Some of the questions the book seeks to explore include, how has aviation intertwined with entertainment and culture to serve the public? What is the impact of entertainment on passengers’ experience? And what are the sociocultural, economic, and technological implications of the triad?
