Canada Research Chair in Socially Engaged Theatre.

The CRC.

The Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Socially Engaged Theatre expresses itself in different folds through:

  • Critical pedagogy, as a teaching approach which attempts to help students question and challenge domination and the beliefs and practices that dominate. At C-SET, we believe that practice and theory (praxis) have to align for both personal and social transformation.

  • Postcolonial theory, is an umbrella term used to describe a set of theories and practices which seek to explore the legacy of colonialism in the present day. It is about cultural resistance against cultural dominance.

  • Decolonization, as a discourse shapes the ethics of human interaction, shifts dialogues, challenges oppressive systemic structures, and provides new diverse narratives.
  • Participatory development often called PD is a process through which participants can influence and share control over development initiatives, and over those decisions and resources that affect themselves.
